Job Description
Summary:
The Patient Access Rep III performs clerical and reception duties associated with patient registration.
Responsibilities:
Greets patients and visitors, responds to questions/concerns and directs them to appropriate location. Provides on-going communication with clinical staff regarding patient status.
Collects and enters all necessary demographic, clinical, billing and insurance information from patients or responsible parties.
Explains processes and forms to patients prior to securing signatures and ensures that all documents are properly signed and witnessed as required.
Determines and accepts required payments, including co-pays and deductibles.
Ensures medical necessity compliance b! y obtaining necessary data, reviewing compliance system, communicating ! information to patient or guarantor and obtaining necessary signatures.
Accountable for multiple scopes of service and capable of working in outpatient, day surgery, inpatient direct admits, observation, bed board and emergency room as need with accuracy. Transfers patients between facilities, receives facility transfer information and up/downgrades. Serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff. Functions as a team leader in the department by ensuring daily processes are complete, scheduling employees, providing answers to employee questions and assisting in employee orientation and training.
Protects financial integrity of the facility by collecting patient liability, establishing payment arrangements, discussing payment options and screening for eligibility. Completes complex financial counseling including the review and submission of charity applications.
Identifies alternative resources for financial reimbursement.
Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits and ensures all notifications and authorizations are completed within the required timeframes. Monitors, reviews and resolves patient account issues on assigned reports. Performs account analysis and trending. Completes quality review and monitors for process improvement opportunities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
May be required to be "on-call."
Education & Experience:
HS or Equivalent,
And,Three (3) years prior experience in a medical business office, hospital, or other customer service setting is required.
Supervisory and/or leadership experience is preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
