The Surgery Scheduling Coordinator coordinates all logistical details involved in scheduling surgeries, tests and other patient related appointments according to department guidelines and provider preferences. This includes working with patients, surgeons, nurses, and OR to schedule and maximize surgeonâs operating time, as well as insurance companies to obtain proper prior authorizations and pre-certification. Schedules post-operative care and provides basic patient information. Full responsibility for individual providers within a surgery subspecialty, and required to understand the needs of all other subspecialty areas within the Department of Surgery to! provide seamless coverage for other members of the team they ! are working with in order to cover for other positions as needed.
In order to qualify for this position, you must possess:
High school diploma or GED
Medical terminology and general knowledge of surgical procedures
3 years office experience in a health care setting with previous insurance company authorization skills
Excellent coordination and scheduling skills
Work prioritization skills
Previous patient or procedure scheduling experience
Experience with customer service
Preferred:
Some post high school education and training
Licensed medical training such as a Medical Assistant or LPN.
Experience working in a surgical setting.
Broad patient and/or procedure scheduling experience.
