The European Schools could best be described as a mini-continent within a school, where our students receive a unique form of international education. Our curriculum is structured in a way which places particular emphasis on the sciences and multilingualism.
Approximately 500 children attend the European School of Bergen (NL), which is located near the city of Alkmaar
(Noord-Holland province). Our pupils range from 4 and 18 years of age and are grouped in three language sections (anglophone, francophone and Dutch-speaking). Classes are organised in three cycles: o Nursery cycle (two years),
o Primary cycle (five years) and
o Secondary cycle (seven years).
The European Schools curriculum is the same in all the language sections. Differentiation and inclusiveness are cornerstones of the European schools.
Upon successfully completing their secondary schooling, our students are awarded the prestigious European
Baccalaureate (EB). This qualification is fully recognized by colleges and universities throughout the European
Union and beyond.

REPLACEMENT - PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER
in the Secondary Cycle, ± 19 periods per week

Profile
- We need an enthusiastic, highly motivated Physical Education teacher who can teach all year groups in t he secondary school (11 – 1 8 years). The teacher will take responsibility for sport for the girls in particular.
- The sports lessons are in mixed language groups, and so the teacher will need to be able to communicate with the students in at least Dutch and English, and preferably some French as well.
- Although he/she will need to follow the syllabus closely, the ability to offer interesting, innovative and challenging lessons which recognize the need for a diversity of approaches is essential.
- Good teamwork is essential.
- The person appointed needs to be a qualified secondary school teacher with experience.
Conditions and offer
- Replacement contract for maternity leave from 1 September 2023 until 17 January 2024, with the potential for short-term prolongation
- Working time: ± 19 periods per week (full-time is 21 periods of 45 minutes)
- A vibrant job in an intercultural setting
- A gross monthly salary of 6400 EUR as full-time equivalent (21 periods). The salary includes the travel expenses; we do not offer a separate travel allowance
- No pension scheme
- Collective health insurance possible
- A reduction in school fees shall be granted during the period of his/her employment for any of his/her children enrolled in the European School
- An offer of employment is subject to verification of qualifications by the national inspector and the production of a recent Certificate of Good Conduct/disclosure certificate. More information about this will be given if selected for interview.
