Martinsburg VAMC provides general medical, surgical, and psychiatric services to veterans in 23 counties in West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

The Medical Center has a fully integrated inpatient and outpatient primary care program, and provides a full range of outpatient services. The Medical Center is located on 175 acres of beautiful rolling hills, in modern, well-maintained buildings.

DUTIES:
Geriatrics/Long Term Care is looking for a Physician who will also act as the Medical Director for the Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) Program Director. Board Certificatio! n in and experience in Geriatrics and home care preferred. Duties will include:

leadership to the HBPC program regarding the medical needs of HBPC patients

participates in the 24/7 coverage system for Geriatrics/Long Term Care inpatients

will support Veterans enrolled in community hospice programs and provide coordinated medical care for Veterans enrolled in community programs such as Homemaker Home Health Aide (HHHA) services.

provides clinical input and oversight for all patient treatment plans in collaboration with a nurse practioner or physician assistant

provides leadership during HBPC team meetings

makes home visits for HBPC patients (must possess a valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle for home visits)

provides education to the HBPC team on current medical information/practices

will serve as attending physician for the current Geriatric Fellowship Program

will mentor rotating! medical students and residents during HBPC rotations

will be ! a leader in performance improvement and focus on improving access to HBPC

Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

: Candidates must meet all regulatory requirements for Physician per VA Handbook 5005, Part II, and Appendix G2, dated April 15, 2002 as listed below:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

Citizenship:
U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy.

Education

. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:

1 Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Col! leges for the year in which the degree was granted.

2 Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.

3 Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.

4 For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required except as provided in M-8, part II, chapter 1.

Licensure and Registration

1. Physicians (Except Residents).

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. The facility Director may waive this licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the United States and the physician has licensure in that country.

2. Residents.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice me! dicine or surgery in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia before the second year of VA residency, or meet any licensure, registration or other equivalent requirements established for residents of non-VA hospitals with which the VA facility is affiliated for training purposes. The resident must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure

Board Certified in Geriatrics

Physical Requirements:
