This position is located within Nursing Services at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center. The VA Medical Center is located in the heart of West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle on 175 acres in historic Berkeley County. The Medical Center offers a comprehensive range of services, including internal medicine, ambulatory surgery, audiology and speech pathology, dental, nursing home, nutrition, podiatry, prosthetics, women's health, mental health, and rehabilitation medicine. Patient Care is provided through an integrated primary care concept, and each veteran is assigned to a team of health care providers who follow the patient's care both as an inpatient and an outpatient. The Medical Center has a service area of nearly 130,000 veterans in West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

DUTIES:
The nurse accepted for this position must be a highly skilled individual who will be ! responsible for performing the duties of scrub and/or circulator for a ! patient population that includes, but is not limited to general surgery, GU, GI, EENT, vascular and orthopedic procedures. This nurse will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of surgical care from preparation of the patient and OR suite to assisting the surgeon during procedures. The RN chosen for the position must also be competent to deliver patient care and rotate through Same Day Surgery, Endoscopy, Recovery and the clinics. Rotation to other tours will be based on patient care needs. This RN will be clinically and administratively accountable to the Nurse Manager of Surgical Services.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Citizen of the United States.

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency

and

accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or T! he Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia

. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.

Must be proficient in spoken and written English

Must possess a current ACLS certification.

Minimum of 5 years of OR circulator and scrub experience preferred.

Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality! with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing:

Education/Experience Requirements:
Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.

Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or AD! N or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.

Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
