Major Duties/Responsibilities
~ Selectees will work under the Behavioral Health & Rehabilitation Services at the Louis A. Johnson VAMC, providing direct patient care to Veterans in the out-patient and in-patient mental health and residential programs.
~ Selectees will also provide care for those Veterans needing psychiatric consults, for both in-patient and out-patient.
~ Other duties as assigned.
Tour of Duty
Monday-Friday, 8:00 A.M.-4:30 P.M., with rotating night and weekend call; however, subject to change, depending on the needs of the service/medical center.
Please Note: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. If you do not currently possess, you must be able to achieve such with six months of entering on duty.
Relocation expenses will not be reimbursed. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
~ Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
(2) Schools of osteopathic med! icine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in ! which the degree was granted.
(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
~ Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
~ Proficiency in spoken and written English is required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
~ Must be currently board-certified/board-eligible in psychiatry. ~ Must have current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), or ability to achieve such within six months of entering on duty.
Education

Special Requirements:
~ You must submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test before you can be appointed into this position. After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
~ You must have a certification, licensure, or registration credentials as noted for this position, as noted in the 'Qualifications' secti! on.
~ You must have current certification in Basic Life Suppor! t (BLS), or the ability to achieve such within six months of entering on duty.
~ You must successfully complete and pass the VetPro Credentialing & Privileging process.
~ You will need to successfully complete and pass a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
~ You must pass a pre-employment medical examination.
~ You will be required to successfully complete a probationary period of two (2) years, which commences when you enter on duty.
~ You will need to walk, stand, bend, stoop, and may need to work in cramped positions.
