More information about our location can be found at the Chamber of Commerce of Martinsburg and Berkeley County website: http://www.berkeleycounty.org.DUTIES: Martinsburg VAMC is seeking a full-time staff Gastroenterologist to treat veterans with a variety of gastroenterologic and liver diseases. Must be skilled in performing endoscopy and liver biopsies. The position involves inpatient and outpatient consultation and management of patients in outpatient setting. An interest in teaching and involvement in training a cross section of clinical providers is desired. Effective interaction with related services within the medical center is required. Expectations include maintenance of a high degree of excellence in clinical outcomes while providing efficient patient care.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must meet all regulatory requirements for Physician per VA Handbook 5005, Part II, and Appendix G2, dated April 15, 2002 as listed below: BASIC REQUIREMENTSCitizenship: Citizen of the United States.
Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: 1 Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.2 Schools of osteopathic med! icine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.3 Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.4 For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required except as provided in M-8, part II, chapter 1.Licensure and Registration1. Physicians (Except Residents). Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. The facility Director may waive this licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the United States and the physician has licensure in that countr! y.2. Residents. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medi! cine or surgery in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia before the second year of VA residency, or meet any licensure, registration or other equivalent requirements established for residents of non-VA hospitals with which the VA facility is affiliated for training purposes. The resident must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensureRequirementsA pre-placement physical examination is required.English Language Proficiency. Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).Preferred Qualifications. Board Certification in GastroenterologyHOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED: Your application, rsum and/or supporting documentation will be verified. Please follow all instructions carefully. Errors or omissions may affect consideration for employ! ment. You may also be evaluated based upon the question responses you provide during a structured interview. In responding to structured interview questions you should be sure to cite specific examples of experience, explain exactly what you did, and the outcome.VETERANS PREFERENCE: Five points may be added to the eligible ratings of veterans who: Entered the military service prior to October 14, 1976; served on active duty during the Gulf War between August 2, 1990 and January 2, 1992, regardless of where the person served; or, served in a military action for which they received a campaign badge or expeditionary medal. Medal holders and Gulf War veterans must have served continuously for at least 24 months or the full period for which called or ordered to active duty. Ten points may be granted to the eligible ratings of disabled veterans; Purple Heart recipients; spouses or mothers of a 100 percent disabled veteran; or the widows, widowers, or mothers of a deceased veteran! .
