Position Overview

Under general supervision of the Corrections Identification Supervisor, the Corrections Identification Technician conducts a program of fingerprint and photographic identification at a Corrections facility for both employees and individuals in custody. The incumbent shall maintain cross reference files of all persons committed to, or processed by, the facility, as well as maintain all photographic and fingerprint equipment assigned. The ideal candidate should have the ability to pay attention to detail, and be able to enforce and maintain safety, sanitary, security, and custodial measures. Job Responsibilities

  • Enters information into applications such as Livescan, Photo ID, and O360.
  • Captures and compares fingerprints of individuals in custody and employees.
  • Maintains fingerprint and photographic files for institutional use.
  • In conjunction with Field Service Representatives, Illinois State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation and other outside agencies, provides fingerprints, photographs and notification of an offender release.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.


This title is included as an Upward Mobility Program Credential title.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  • Prefers at least six (6) months of experience applying modern methods and procedures used in fingerprint classification and identification work.
  • Prefers at least six (6) months of experience working in a correctional setting.
  • Prefers at least six (6) months of experience utilizing photographic techniques.
  • Prefers at least six (6) months of experience recording and classifying legible fingerprints impressions.
  • Prefers at least six (6) months of experience comparing fingerprints and identification data accurately.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six (6) months of employment.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
