You will be subject to a background/suitability investigation. DUTIES:
This position is located at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assists physicians in performing diagnostic procedures ranging from routine to specialize! d procedures to include, biopsy, endoscopy, bronchoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy.
- Cleans and disinfects endoscopes after procedures.
- Prepares patients for tests, examinations, treatment or minor surgery.
- Ensures adherence to sterile techniques and other established safety measures to prevent infection and cross-contamination.
- Establishes and maintains a variety of files and records related to gastroenterology activities.
- Utilizes automated information systems (computer hardware and software) in completing the assigned duties.
- Provides procedure suite with sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment.
- Contacts patients referred for screening colonoscopy to collect standard pre-procedural information.
- Recognizes and reacts to medical emergencies.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am -: 4:30pm

GS-7 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One (1) or more years of specialized experience equipped with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position at the GS-7 level. To be creditable, the experience must have been equivalent to the GS-6 level in the Federal service. Examples of qualifying specialized experience may include: working experience in a gastroenterology environment; assisting physicians with biopsy, endoscopy, bronchoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy; cleaning and disinfecting endoscopes after procedures; ensuring adherence to sterile techniques and established safety! measures; and establishing and maintaining a variety of files and records related to gastroenterology activities and functions. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

GS-7 EDUCATION: One (1) year or more of successfully completed graduate-level education or an internship with courses directly related to the position? One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study ! requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance w! ith its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. (Transcripts required.)

GS-7 COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: equivalent combinations of experience and successfully completed education to meet the total experience requirements to qualify for the GS-7 position. (Transcript required.)

Ability to effectively communicate
Ability to follow written and instructions in person
Ability to plan activities of an endoscopy unit
Ability to assist with endoscopy procedures
Ability to perform sterilization and reprocessing duties
Skill in the use of personal computer based administrative support software
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The work requires some physical exertion including extensive periods o! f walking, standing, regular and recurring bending, stooping and stretching. There is recurring lifting of heavy objects such as assisting patients on and off examination tables. The work requires pushing and pulling, carts, pushing patients in wheelchairs and lifting bags of soiled linen.

Best qualified - applicants possessing experience that substantially exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are highly proficient in all requirements of the job and can perform effectively in the position;
Highly qualified - applicants possessing experience that exceeds the minimum qualifications of the p! osition including all selective factors, and who are proficient in most! of the requirements of the job;
Well qualified - applicants possessing experience that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in some, but not all, of the requirements of the job; and
Qualified - applicants possessing experience and/or education that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors.
