POSITION IS BEING AD! VERTISED FOR INTERMITTENT WORK. THERE WILL BE NO GUARANTEE OF ! HOURS WORKED. WILL BE HIRED FOR MAINTENANCE OF QUALITY PATIENT CARE DURING STAFF SHORTAGES BOTH PLANNED AND UNPLANNED.
Dental Assistant duties include set up operatory for planned dental procedures and cleans dental unit; passes instruments safely, accurately and efficiently; keeps operative field clear of debris and retracts oral tissues; prepares dental medicaments and materials per manufacturer's instructions; accomplishes all intra-operative procedures within standard infection control protocols; assists in routine general dental procedures; assists on specialized dental procedures such as oral surgery, prosthodontics, endodontics, and periodontics. Dental Imaging skills are expected to be characterized by diagnostic quality, accurately oriented and exposed; dental imaging safety techniques are utilized and retakes are minimized; radiographs are appropriately mounted and labeled. All procedures should be accomplished within standard infection control procedures! to include set-up, clean-up and sterilization of instruments. Incumbent will provide patient care as appropriate for patient's age and abilities; provides accurate and understandable instructions to patients; participates in patient identification; monitors patient condition during treatment, being alert for signs of physical distress.Position will have intermittent schedule whereby employee may be called to work, if available, on short notice or per planned absence of current staff. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. citizenship.
Applicant must have full performance experience or one year education or combination of experience and education.
Must have successfully completed education to be certified as radiographer in this occupation.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
GS-6 : At least one year of experience at the next lower grade level that demonstrates competency at that level. It is expected that you perform mo! re complex work than the lower grade level with less supervision.
In addition to meeting basic requirements, you must meet the following knowledge, skills and abilities (be sure your application packet demonstrates your competence as listed below:
Ability to identify normal oral anatomy.
Advanced knowledge of instruments, materials, and standardized dental procedures used in all phases of restorative, surgical, endodontic and periodontal care procedures.
Ability to monitor and perform basic interpretation of vital signs.
Ability to independently provide procedure-specific patient education and appropriate referral of patient converns to treating dentist.
Ability to capture standard and special dental images of good diagnostic quality in traditional or digital formats.
Ability to perform maintenance on dental equipment used for routine and specialty dentistry.
Ability to enter and retrieve data utilizing electronic dental records.
Ability to perform dental assistan! t-appropriate laboratory procedures.
